Prague – The exhibition in the House at the Golden Ring, which will take place from September 3 this year to September 4 next year, shows the Prague inspirations of Jaroslav Foglar’s work. The exhibition entitled The City as a Ghost / Jaroslav Foglar’s Prague Inspirations is on the third floor of the cellars of the buildings and emphasizes the motifs of intertwining the world of teenage boys with the fascinating world of the city, in whose mysterious alleys boyish events take place. The director of the Museum of the Capital City of Prague, Zuzana Strnadová, informed the journalists about this today.
“The exhibition is intended for the general public, Praguers and Czechs, because Jaroslav Foglar is a purely domestic phenomenon. We have prepared it to please and encourage our visitors, knowing that many of us have been hit hard by Foglar’s work, but it does not tell many people anything, “she told ČTK. “Nowadays, it says a lot to young people who are brought up in a family, but many of them are aimed completely differently. That’s not wrong, but I think the work of Foglar and the mystery it contains, the ideas and values it professes, “They’re important,” we care.
The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first of them contains paintings from the collections of the Museum of the Capital City of Prague, in which artists such as Vincenc Beneš, Karel Boháček, Gustav Mazoun or Miloslav Holý depicted various places in Nusle, Vinohrady or Prague’s Podskalí, ie the area where Foglar grew up. The exhibition continues in an experiential way in the part located in the basement. Its author is the director Petr Kotek, who made Foglar’s Mystery Puzzle as a feature film.
“Personally, I divide the exhibition into a part of the world and a dark part. Foglar grew up at a time when large parts of Prague were being demolished, if so, the darkness of the First World War came. until it reached the Shadows, “said Kotek.
The Museum of the Capital City of Prague commemorated Foglar and his work in the past with two exhibitions in 1997 and 2007. The exhibition The City as a Ghost / Prague Inspirations by Jaroslav Foglar will supplement the lecture series for lovers of Foglar’s work once a month from October. There will also be teaching programs and a game for children and adults. More information can be found at pages museums.
Foglar’s books are still popular today. Quick arrows and comic books drawn by Jan Fischer, Václav Junek, Bohumír Čermák and Marko Čermák are among the best-selling titles in literature for young people. The reference to the ideals of friendship and equality from Foglar’s books still appeals not only to older generations. Few people know at least one of his books Boys from the Beaver River, When April Comes, The Mystery of the Puzzle, The Cottage in the Lake Basin or The Mysterious Rasnovka. The publishing of a writer’s work nicknamed the Hawk has long been complicated by copyright disputes. Finally, after litigation, the Jaroslav Foglar Scout Foundation is acquired, which has established cooperation with the Albatros publishing house.
