Parking in Prague on the blue zone. What should you pay attention to?
Finding a free parking space in Prague is sometimes a superhuman feat. However, it is often not necessary to circle the parking lot for half an hour and wait impatiently. When you have a perfect overview of the regulations of others with parking spaces, you will gain substantial support in front of other drivers.
Electric cars can be parked for free. But not always
Due to the fact that environmental protection is still a topic in our country, they have electrified cars with CO emissions2 up to 50 grams a whole range of benefits, even in Prague.
Undoubtedly, one of the most important is the possibility of free parking. If you have so-called “electric” license plates, which start with the letters EL, it does not have to solve anything. If you do not have one, you must register with the municipality. You can also have a pitch when you ride in an insufficiently ecological hybrid. The registration costs a symbolic 100 crowns and is valid all year round. It can only be handled at the municipal branch in Jungmannova Street.
Do you have an optional brand on a hybrid or electric car? Forget free parking in the zones in Prague
You can then park for free in the blue or purple zones. If you want to park in the green or orange zone, you can’t avoid the fees with an electric car or a plug-in hybrid. This type of zone serves primarily as parking for non-residents.
Hybrids are not as privileged as electric cars
Free parking today is intended only for vehicles that meet strict emission limits (as mentioned above – up to 50 g CO2/ km). Owners of hybrid car drivers are simply unlucky. As a condition of strict limits, they do not have a chance to obtain the same type of registration as electric cars.
Although most hybrids do not meet the conditions, there are also models that do not exceed the standards. These are mainly so-called plug-in hybrids, which can be powered from the mains. Just to give you an idea, these are type cars Skoda Octavia iV, Volkswagen Golf GTE, but maybe also BMW 530e.
Why don’t hybrids be in a better position?
For the majority of the population, the hybrid is synonymous with eco-friendly cars, so why don’t they have the same position in the legislation of the capital as electric cars?
Until recently, they have it, specifically until May 2019. Nevertheless, classic hybrids produce too many harmful substances, especially SUV models. Smaller city cars are often better off in this respect, either with conventional internal combustion engines or with more environmentally friendly alternative propulsion.
Big quarrel over the blue zones for free. Prague does not want to and appeals to the ambulance. But some parts of the city are calling for them
Scooters can be parked for free in all zones
If you ride around the city only on a scooter, some zones may be completely stolen from you, with this vehicle you can park virtually everywhere for free. However, be careful, even scooters must be parked in the places marked for that. If you do it, for example, on the sidewalk, which is a pretty good habit in Prague, you can get quite a greasy fine.
The number of paid zones is increasing
In general, it can be said that today parking for free in Prague is basically impossible for owners of classic cars with internal combustion engines. However, not only those outside Prague have problems, for whom more and more paid zones are growing, but also the natives.
