Hospital ship Global Mercy almost in Antwerp

The Global Mercy, the second hospital ship of the Mercy Ships organization, will arrive in Antwerp on the weekend of 12 September. It departed from the yard in China in July. The ship will remain in Antwerp until February next year to be fitted out. Then, before the ship leaves for West Africa, it will leave for Rotterdam for two weeks and be set up for the public.
the ship arrives in Antwerp it will have a short visit to Malta, the flag state of both Mercy Ships ships.
In the first week of September, the ship passed through the Suez Canal. The passage was later paid for by Egypt and Senegal. The Africa Mercy has visited the latter country for a number of years and conducted various questionnaires. Also the first port of call when the ship is operational is the capital of Senegal, Dakar.
200 patient beds
In Antwerp, all medical equipment, the equipment for the six operating rooms, the 200 patient beds and the IT will be brought on board and installed in the coming months. Shortly before the departure to Rotterdam, it will continue to be his stock and the latest events will come on board. That is 641, from all over the world. The ship can accommodate a total of 950 people.
In Africa, not only medical aid programs are provided on the ship, but also training is provided so that local people can carry out part of the treatments, even after the ship has departed.
