Tuesday, August 31, around 8:30 p.m., the gendarmes received a call from a resident of Seynod explaining that a man had just taken refuge at his home to escape his threatening and armed neighbor. Two military patrols from the Seynod and Annecy-le-Vieux units were then engaged on the spot to clarify the facts arising from a long-standing neighborhood conflict.
The first testimonies reported on the spot by the soldiers confirmed that a man had displayed a firearm through his window and held up his neighbor while threatening him with death.
Entrenched at home, the man was contacted by telephone by the gendarmes inviting him to leave his apartment empty-handed. The latter was obeyed without difficulty and was arrested without a hitch. The over 70-year-old man was taken into custody while his home was searched. Inside it, the soldiers got their hands on a real small arsenal consisting of two rifles, two revolvers, a taser, a crossbow, ammunition as well as various bladed weapons and types of machetes. Prosecuted for threats with a weapon and prohibited possession of category B weapons, the septuagenarian was left free and will be summoned to court in the first quarter of 2022.
