Mergim Berisha has joined last season’s SüperLig third-placed Fenerbahce SK with immediate effect.
The striker joined the Salzburg youth team in 2008 and went through all age groups at the academy. After loans from LASK, FC Magdeburg and Altach, the 23-year-old became a regular at Salzburg last season. The goalgetter played a total of 58 games with the series champions and scored 24 goals and 15 assists.
Berisha is happy about the new challenge, but also thanks his old club: “I’ve spent almost my whole footballing life at FC Red Bull Salzburg and I’ve learned so much here. I’m very grateful to the club and everyone for that.” The striker continued: “But now I have the feeling that after all these years in Salzburg it’s time for something new.”
Salzburg sports director Christoph Freund wishes his former protégé all the best: “Mergim is another great example of how young guys from the Red Bull Football Academy can develop here in Salzburg. We wish Mergim all the best and much success on his further way! ”
