Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko will soon sign a package of “road maps” for the integration of the governor of Belarus, Belarusian ambassador to Moscow Vladimir Semashko said at a meeting with Belarusian sernator of the Voronezh region Alexander Gusev and vice-speaker of the Russian State Duma Alexei Gordeev on Tuesday, August 31. According to Semashko, the documents will be signed by Putin and Lukashenko on September 9 at a meeting in Moscow. “We, thank God, are at the finish line three years later, when only one of 28 cards is left.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin and Lukashenko will meet on September 9 and hold talks, after which they will give a press conference. Peskov did not disclose the subject of the negotiations.
Fifth meeting of Putin and Lukashenko in 2021
Earlier it was reported that Putin and Lukashenko are planning to discuss at a meeting in the union programs prepared by the governments of the two countries, international problems, as well as topical issues of the bilateral problem. Lukashenko last met with Putin on July 13 in St. Petersburg. This was their fourth face-to-face meeting this year. Before that, both saw each other in February, April and May. All meetings took place in Russia.
The authorities of Russia and Belarus have been discussing the political integration of the two countries since 1999. The 2019-2020 negotiations concerned the 31st roadmap on integration in various spheres of economy and management. The draft roadmaps have never been published. Residents of Belarus staged protests against the integration of their country with Russia.
