The results of the Summer Olympics held in the Japanese capital and the results of the participation of Belarusian athletes in it were the subject of a thorough analysis at a working meeting between the President of the Republic of Belarus and the head of the National Olympic Committee Viktor Lukashenko, the press service of the Belarusian leader reported on August 31.
As you know, 105 Belarusian athletes participated in the past games in Tokyo, representing twenty kinds of sports. Unfortunately, according to the results of the competition, the national team had only seven medals (1 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals), which is recognized as the worst result of the country in the history of performances.
First of all, Alexander Lukashenko believes, it is important to draw “the necessary conclusions and outline steps for the future, to determine how to organize the work of the sports industry to achieve a result.” He made it clear that, as before, in addition to the leadership of the NOC, responsibility for this lies with the profile minister and the deputy prime minister in charge of sports.
He especially focused on the importance of selection and promising athletes, starting from an early age. He noticed that he would have to count on high achievements.
Earlier, commenting on the state of high-performance sports in the republic, the Belarusian explained that he sees a way out of the current situation in focusing support on individual sports and teams that really give results. According to Lukashenka, it is necessary to choose teams, athletes from all the “physical culture and sports mass” in which Minsk invests huge money and invest in them “funds that will yield results tomorrow.”
