Prague wants to operate photovoltaic power plants on the roofs of its houses
Rada hl. At Monday’s meeting, the City of Prague approved a proposal for the establishment of a new municipal contributory organization, the main task of which is to prepare, build and operate Prague’s solar power plants, using mainly buildings owned by the City of Prague. cities. The establishment of a contributory organization of the Prague Renewable Energy Community is fulfilled by one of the points of the Climate Plan of the City of Prague, which was approved by the City Council. m of Prague this May. In the future, the new organization will also focus on the development of heat and possibly gas production of renewable origin. The City Hall informs about it. m of Prague. The newly established contributory organization of the capital m of Prague is to prepare and prepare only the construction of new sources of energy and heat, but then to operate the sources. “Simply put, we want to build and operate a Prague solar power plant on the roofs of city buildings, such as schools, offices or social services homes, which will supply green electricity to Praguers, there will be no such pressure on its price as in the case of coal electricity,” , Deputy Mayor for the Environment. “In addition, this electricity will not be burdened by distribution fees, which today amount to approximately 30 percent of the price that Praguers pay for energy,” adds Deputy Hlubuček.
In the coming years, the economy will be a great motivation not only for the capital. m Prague, but also private entities using sources of clean electricity and heat. The newly established organization will therefore also function as an advisory and contact point for the city’s citizens and legal entities who want to participate in the creation of energy communities, and thus participate in the establishment of energy production from renewable sources. In addition to the fact that the consumption of electricity produced on site means savings in the reduction of external supplies and distribution fees, we are already watching the jump in market prices of conventional fossil fuels, especially coal, due to rising prices of emission allowances. At present, the capital. Prague opens up opportunities for investment support for electricity for the construction of green resources and heat from the state and European funds. The use of these subsidy titles and the preparation of projects will be the newly established organization of the Prague Renewable Energy Community.
Hl. m Prague plans to use the buildings in its ownership for the construction of the Prague solar power plant. There are such objects on the territory of the capital. m of Prague more than 7 thousand. These are buildings used for education (more than 1 thousand buildings), for social purposes (several hundred buildings), for rental housing (more than 1 thousand buildings) and other civic amenities (hundreds of buildings). “The plan for 2022 envisages the selection of a contractor and the subsequent implementation of a pilot project for the simultaneous construction of a total of 40 solar power plants at selected schools, social and cultural facilities,” describes Petr Hlubuček’s plans for a new contributory organization for the coming months. “We have already submitted an application for support from the Operational Program for the Environment for these projects,” adds Hlubuček.
In addition to the preparation and construction of the Prague solar power plant, the task of the new contributory organization will also be the preparation of energy saving projects, where new green resources will be located in buildings. “It’s one thing to be able to produce green energy, but it’s just as important to be able to use it efficiently. Therefore, reducing energy intensity is the same priority as the installation of green resources, “said Deputy Hlubuček.
The City of Prague’s climate plan until 2030, as a strategy for reducing CO2 emissions in the capital city of Prague, envisages a massive development of energy from renewable sources by 2030. To meet the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030, Prague plans to use approximately 20,000 buildings for the installation of rooftop solar power plants or biomethane cogeneration units. The capital plans to obtain several megawatts of green energy a year from these new sources.
