Belarus will not play at the 2022 Olympics in hockey, losing in the 3rd round of qualifications to Slovakia
The national team of Belarus failed to qualify for the 2022 Olympic Games.
Craig Woodcroft’s wards lost to the Slovakian team with a score of 1: 2 (0: 1, 1: 0, 0: 1). The meeting took place in Bratislava at the Ondrej Nepela Stadium.
The scoring in the meeting at the 5th minute in a five-on-four situation was opened by the Slovak striker Peter Ceglarik. Marek Grivik acted as an assistant. On the 22nd minute, striker Yegor Sharangovich scored the return goal as part of the Belarusian national team.
The winning goal in the 58th minute was thrown into the empty net by Libor Gudachek.
Recall that the Winter Olympic Games will be held from 4 to 20 February 2022 in Beijing (China). The top eight teams in the world rankings as of 2019 received an automatic spot in the Olympics. The IIHF ranking was calculated based on the performances of the national teams in five tournaments (World Cup 2016, World Cup 2017, OI-2018, World Cup 2018 and World Cup 2019).
As a result of the calculations, the national teams of Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, USA, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland were selected in Beijing. The national team of China became another participant as the hosts of the tournament. Today, on August 29, Denmark and Latvia were added to this team, except for Slovakia.
