Spicy duel. The Glasgow Rangers will come to Prague, first they will face Sparta
Glasgow Rangers will once again play in the European League against a team from Prague. After the spring retaliation of the round of 16 against Slavia is accompanied by controversial events, this time the Scottish team is taking place against Sparta. Other participants in Group A are Olympique Lyon and Bröndby Copenhagen.
“An attractive group for fans. The teams are very high quality and interesting,” Sparta sports director Tomáš Rosický told club television.
“The match in Scotland will be in front of the spectators, a good test for our team. We do not have a good balance with the French teams in the last two years. There will be a good atmosphere at Bröndby, but it is a team of our size,” he added.
The groups will start on Thursday 16 September and the last sixth round will take place on 9 December. The first two teams will always pass into the elimination phase. Teams in third place are now waiting for the playoffs of the European Conference League.
Sparta moved to the European League after failing in the preliminary round of the Champions League. He has a certain 3.63 million euros (over 92 million crowns) for participating in the main phase of the European League.
In last year’s European League, the Letna team defeated another Glasgow Celtic team 4: 1 in the group.
The Rangers fell out with Slavia, when they did not tolerate unfavorable developments, especially in retaliation at home, they resorted to brutal play, seriously injured goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář, and Glen Kamara accused Ondřej Kúdel of racist insult after one of the quarrels. The Rangers then covered the cameras in the tunnel in the stadium, and when they invited Kudela to a “reconciliation meeting,” Kamara struck him with his fist. The Czech defender subsequently received a penalty for ten matches, lost this year’s EURO and Slavia paid for his absence by eliminating them in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and the European League.
