In Prague, hygienists handed out hundreds of fines for violating the rules for returning from abroad. In the regions, such punishments are overcome
At the beginning of July, the government approved stricter rules for arrivals from abroad to the Czech Republic. Everyone who arrives must receive an application form – which is encouraged, among other things, by SMS sent after logging in to a Czech mobile operator – and unexpected people must quarantine for a test and update from some countries. However, they do not observe it, they are mostly encountered by hygienists in Prague.
Even in the Pilsen region, however, it happened that no one opened it to hygienists in an apartment where a woman was supposed to be self-insulating. “We tried to ring, call, it didn’t work. We left the protocol here and we will request that the lady contact us for the reason why she was not at the address, “submits Lenka Svátková from the epidemiological department of the regional hygiene station.
If we could not explain the absence, it would be the first mistake found in the whole region. So far, the holidays in the South Moravian and Olomouc regions have also gone without a fine for travelers, in which other regions had problems only in units of cases. For example, in the Hradec Králové Region, hygienists were fined a single ten thousand fine.
According to Jitka Luňáčková, director of the anti-epidemic department of South Bohemian hygienists, if people did not pass the mandatory test, an explanation is acceptable that they have already signed up for it, but have not yet received an appointment.
Fines up to 25 thousand crowns
An exception to the rules that hygienists do not distribute fines too much in connection with travel is Prague. In the metropolis, people who did not respect the conditions set for obtaining from abroad already received almost four fines in the total amount approaching 1.7 million crowns. According to the head of the city hygiene station Zdeněk Jágrová, the individual sanctions ranged from three to 25 thousand crowns.
This activity of hygienists was criticized by the deputy chairman of the Association of Travel Agencies, Jan Papež. “The energy we put into the Ministry of Health and sanitation stations to monitor tourists should be put into smart quarantines. If they cleverly monitor people who come into contact with the positive, it would be much more useful for everyone, “he says.
According to the Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES), however, the checks on people who came from abroad are not intense. “It is clear that it is not possible for everyone, there are tens of thousands or even more of those people. But inspections are simply underway, “he said.
According to the main hygienists Pavla Svrčinová, up to 150 people positive for covid-19 come from abroad every week, and since the beginning of June, the hygienists have recorded 1,300 infected people who have arrived.
There were 2.5 million people abroad, and interest in trips to Slovakia fell sharply
According to the Association of Travel Agencies, 2.5 million people returned from abroad to the Czech Republic from the beginning of the year to mid-August. So far, people have filled out 1.8 million forms since the beginning of the holidays. Most tourists – over half a million – were in Croatia, more than 300,000 in Greece and around 200,000 in Bulgaria, Austria and Egypt.
Due to ongoing travel restrictions, interest in trips to Slovakia and Italy, which were among the most popular destinations before the pandemic, decreased this year. “Slovakia has become the highlight of the year. Instead of almost three quarters of a million people heading to Slovakia, a maximum of 200,000 people will live, “Jan Papež compared.
Less than in the past, people fly on vacation. In July, more than 600,000 people left Prague, in July 2019 there were almost two million. “We estimate that we will reach the numbers before the covid from 2019 in four to five years,” said Kateřina Pavlíková, a spokeswoman for Prague Airport.
