This year, Prague bought more than ten hectares of land, for example in Dolní Počernice, Hostivař or Třeboradice. They either plant a forest on them, or there are already forest stands, said the spokesman of the municipality, Tadeáš Provazník. The city paid more than 16 million crowns for the land. He is now preparing further land purchases and is preparing to plant in already urban areas. Forests in Prague is in charge of the municipal organization Forests of the Capital City (LHMP).
“This year we bought land in Dolní Počernice, ie the existing forest land and part of Xaverovské háj for 201,000 crowns. Furthermore, the land in Hostivař under the dam in the natural monument of Meandra Botič for approximately 1.8 million crowns,” said Provazník.
The town in Ruzyně bought another five plots of land and bought a total of about 2.1 hectares of forest in Divoká Šárka. They paid 3.1 million crowns for it. About half of it was then spent on land in Dubča on the eastern edge of the town. “A meadow will be established here and the orchard, which is already on the neighboring plot, will be expanded,” the spokesman said.
In Třeboradice, the municipality bought 8.8 hectares of fields for 9.3 million crowns. In the future, it envisages the establishment of meadows and the planting of so-called scattered greenery, which will help improve the surroundings.
“In preparation for the repurchase, we also have several plots of land in Dubč, one of which is designated in the zoning plan for the forest, and a plot of land in Kunratice, specifically in the vicinity of the Kunratice Forest, where we also expect planting of scattered greenery,” Provazník added. In the autumn, the city expects new plantings on city land, especially in the Lítožnice landscape park.
The city also bought land for afforestation in the past. For example, at the end of last year, it bought 3.5 hectares of land in Chodov, near the Kunratický Forest near the Roztyly C metro station. They paid approximately 5.6 million crowns for them.
Forests in Prague are taken care of by the organization Forests of the Capital City, which is owned and founded by the capital city. The company takes care not only of forests, but also of gardens, parks and watercourses in the metropolis. During 2020, LHMP staff will plant about 230,000 tree seedlings in Prague’s forests, of which approximately 84,000 were planted in new areas.
