Prague 3 will pay seven million crowns for the project to renovate the square
The documentation will be prepared for seven million crowns by the architectural studio Perspektiv, which won the architectural competition for a new form of the square. The city council decided. According to the contract, the modifications should cost a maximum of 70 million crowns, the exact costs will be known after the processing of the documentation.
The square is at the tram stop Olšanské hřbitovy and it includes a tram loop. The management of the town hall chose a form of architectural competition for the selection of the supplier and the subsequent conclusion of a cooperation agreement with its winner. According to the approved document, the studio has to complete the documentation for the zoning decision within four months, and the town hall wants to have the documents for the application for a building permit within six months.
According to the winning design, the space has the same as before to combine the character of the square and the park. A green area should be preserved on Wednesdays, suitable for walking dogs or resting, for example. Most of the current trees will be left, some felled and others added. In front of the primary school bordering the square on the south side, a new space is to be created, partially covered with parquet floors, fountains and three playgrounds for different age categories. The final form may still change compared to the initial competition proposal.
In recent years, the third part of the city has repaired some smaller Žižkov squares, such as Komenského or Kostnické. Others, such as Tachovské or Žižkovo, are planned. Probably the most emotional is aroused by the long-planned proposal for the reconstruction of Jiřího z Poděbrad Square. The previous management of the town hall stopped the preparation of repairs according to the project from 2002, the current one, after adjustment based on the comments of the inhabitants, renewed them and last year ordered the completion of the project documentation. Reconstruction could begin next year.
