For years, Prague has only targeted rich foreigners, now it is coming back to it, readers are writing
The editors of the List of News have selected the most interesting opinions from the discussions in the article on tourism, which, according to the latest data, are moving to the regions and especially to Moravia in the summer.
Ilia Tichý: The tourism will still be half that year, when you see the obstructions at the airport and the paper checks for vaccinations, so it’s no wonder. And when I compare the prices of accommodation in the Beskydy Mountains, in the Jesenice or Olomouc region, where there are monuments, beautiful nature, good transport services? To give CZK 1,500 for accommodation in Prague, if you give half in the mountains of Moravia, walk around Prague and monuments and pay overpriced admission, then beer for 50 and menu for 200, so in the event of a coronary crisis many people will think about where to go on holiday. In Ostrava or Brno we also have airports and half prices. Haná is a beautiful region and Slovácko with its vineyards, dams and folklore is an attraction for tourists, our Moravia is a beautiful country, the people here are sincere and kind.
Lucie Kubelková: For years, Prague hotels and pubs focused on foreign guests, and Czechs were often not “to their liking”. Why would anyone drive to a place where they had previously made it clear that he was just a Czech-speaking half. I work in the center of Prague, I saw it daily and experienced it on my own several times.
David Dušek: As a native of Prague, I am happy and I think I can say that many locals like to take a break from tourists on crowded streets. Moreover, elsewhere in Bohemia and Moravia it is also beautiful. So it is good that tourists also support local businesses in the region.
Radovan Blažej: Prague is brought to heaven as a tourist place full of monuments. The reaction of hoteliers, inn and other services was clear, exorbitant prices. Luxury. Čech peeked with a snack in his hand and left again. Now he is not a foreigner or a Czech tourist, although the prices are affordable. Let’s take the difference in prices at the time of the covid, and as soon as it eased, prices skyrocketed – a mistake. Rents will be certain differently than in the rest of the Czech Republic, ie except for large cities. I don’t envy, but I believe they’re scraped enough not to lie down.
Renata Strauchová: I wouldn’t take those catastrophic scenarios so seriously. It took a year and a half for covid measures to ease, and the sights have been open since early May. Although no crowds of tourists can be seen as before, which is only good, but Prague is definitely not empty, foreigners of individuals and smaller groups are starting to increase and it can also be heard at every step in the center. I can confirm this as a person active in tourism and from my own experience. It doesn’t have to “rain” after a crisis, it’s enough for it to “drip” and it will work.
Janosko Jan: Absolutely normal state: All the time we were told by the “villagers” that Prague is for rich foreigners, and whose prices and behavior it was supported by the people of Prague themselves. Now that they are in the park, the villagers are also good to them. But from my own experience, I can confirm that the covid crisis did not make them more accommodating people, their arrogance did not suffer from the crisis, and all the more they try to get what they can from the people they so cordially invite to them. I hope I don’t have to go there so soon, Golden Moravia.
Ludmila Valentová: Two years ago, we want to regulate tourists, there were too many of them. Thus, the pandemic reduced their tourists themselves. They didn’t care about the Czechs, so I don’t know why I should support them now.
Petr Muller: It’s mainly about long ones. For a domestic tourist, Prague is overpriced and reluctant to clients, so he prefers nature to less money.
Mirek Říha: I am happy in Prague that it is thriving elsewhere, I do not wish anyone a failure. That Prague is expensive? And have you been to Šumava, the Krkonoše Mountains and other well-established destinations, for example in South Moravia? It is clear that it is full, many Czechs are not going abroad this year, including those from Prague. So they spend at home. Prague was and is focused on tourists, and Holt will have to get used to the times before the covid will not return. I don’t mind, nobody roars here, pee in the subways. I don’t miss these tourists. It’s free, prices are fine. Wherever I go, there are no queues. If only it stayed that way for a while.

Monika Herzová: It’s not just about long ones. People without vaccinations, without tests and similar necessities simply do not want to risk visiting Prague companies due to possible sanctions. And there are enough of them.
Michal Kres: As a resident of Prague, I am glad that it is empty. I definitely don’t miss foreigners. Finally, I can walk through the center in peace without being bothered by the constant crowds. Even if the gardens in front of the restaurants were reduced and it would be great. Again, it would look like a normal Czech city. And I’m not even talking about the fact that before the crisis, foreigners were mostly so rude that they immediately addressed the local people on the streets in English, without first asking if they speak English at all, so they automatically expected it, and if someone didn’t know, by doing so, they offended and made disgruntled faces. God forbid they’re gone.
