Swimming in Prague: Motol has the best water, Hostivař, Džbán and Šeberák the worst
Cyanobacteria appear annually in the dam reservoirs on the Botiči stream in Hostivař. This year, the water in this largest body of water in Prague has been cloudy since at least, since the end of July, hygienists have not recommended bathing due to cyanobacteria. The water in the Džbán reservoir on the Litovický stream has been colored green since Monday with the so-called water flower. It forms overpopulated cyanobacteria, which aggregate into a slurry at the surface. At the same time, by the middle of July, there was flawless water in the 18-hectare reservoir.
Health threatening bacteria also appeared this year in the Šeberák pond on the outskirts of Kunratice. This year, the analyzed water samples were first revealed in mid-July, in the same period as last year. However, the water in the pond, which the capital bought from a private owner in 2017, evaluates better properties than in previous years. For example, in 2017 and 2018, the hygienists announced a bathing ban, which lasted a substantial part of the summer season. In 2019, the capital Šeberák had the mud removed and reconstructed, which affected the water quality in the ten-hectare pond. The repairs concerned the discharge facility and the dam.
The best water in Prague
Water of the highest quality is in the Motol pond and in the Divoká Šárka reservoir in the valley of the Šárecký brook. The water quality is deteriorating in the Lhotka habitat in Prague 4, as hygienists stated at the beginning of August. According to hygienists, the water in this habitat is now unsuitable for bathing susceptible individuals. On the contrary, the quality of the water in the swimming pool with natural water treatment in Radotín, the founder of which is the city district of Prague 16, improved this week.
According to the problems of operators with low attendance, Prague’s outdoor pools and swimming pools have problems this year. This applies, for example, to the Hostivař dam, as stated by the operation coordinator Petra Laňková. According to her, the unstable weather and measures associated with the covid-19 pandemic are the main contributors to this. The Džbán swimming pool operation manager Miloš Paprocký and the Motol swimming pool operator Milan Kirlík are similarly provided.
