Prague will set up an organization for the installation of photovoltaic panels on roofs
A contributory organization is to start operating this year, which will be in charge of installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of buildings owned by the capital. Deputy Mayor Petr Hlubuček (STAN) told the press today. Prague recently approved a climate plan, according to which panels should be processed on 20,000 roofs by 2030. So far, the city is testing the technology on two apartment buildings in Černý Most.
According to the deputy, now the city council on the establishment of the organization. “I would like it to start operating as a Prague Renewable Energy Community on October 1,” he said. He added that in view of the European Union’s ambitious plans in the field of renewable energy, the city will have to look for ways to maintain sustainable prices for end customers, and photovoltaics is one of them.
The first project for the installation of panels on Černý Most was approved by the city council at the end of last year. The trial operation is planned for the end of this year and will cost 1.9 to 3.5 million crowns. Then the city will evaluate it and possibly establish other similar projects, which should already be in charge of a new contributory organization. According to earlier statements, it could also offer its services to private homeowners.
According to a recently published analysis carried out for the Alliance for Energy Self-Sufficiency by the consulting company EkoWATT, the roofs of family and apartment houses in and around metropolitan areas can have sufficient photovoltaic performance for 120,000 to 170,000 households. The installed capacity of solar power plants in the Czech Republic has otherwise stagnated or increased only slightly since 2012. According to experts, the reason is the end of support for the field of renewable sources after the so-called solar boom.
