The Prague Pride festival begins. This year without a rainbow procession to the center of Prague. The theme is based
The festival has a different theme each year. This is how it comes out this year. This is the name given to the process by which a person from the LGBT + community recognizes his or her sexual orientation and trusts his or her loved one, for example, says festival director Tom Bílý.
“Someone might say that a person coming out will go through one day, and that is solved. But that is not entirely true. The LGBT + person has been so-called out of his whole life, he is constantly meeting new people, “adds Bílý.
According to him, the topic of coming out is still the general public, which is why this year’s festival is focused on him. Prague Pride offers concerts, exhibitions or lectures from Monday to Sunday. These will be at three festival bases – on Střelecký Island, in the Karlín barracks and at the headquarters of the Život 90 organization (in Karolíny Světlé Street).
Trams with rainbow flags and the rainbow Petrin lookout tower
Rainbow flags also fly in Prague. Trams number 17 run with them, they are also on some street lamps, and the rainbow flag was also hoisted by a politician at the municipality – thus symbolically starting the festival week. Prague Pride received a total of 650 thousand crowns from the city budget. In rainbow colors, Prague will have the Petrin Lookout Tower lit up on Monday.
The most significant event of the festival is usually a rainbow parade through the center of Prague, but this year its organizers are not organizing it. According to Director White, they were unable to oversee all anti-anti-crime measures.
However, the so-called March for Equality is to pass through Prague on Saturday. It is organized by the Reclaim Pride platform. And finally – on Monday, politicians also hoisted a green-blue-red Roma flag on the balcony of the New Town Hall. They thus commemorate the Roma Holocaust Day.
