Prague is raising the price of public transport tickets. It also makes parking more expensive for other P + R car parks
The Prague Transport Company makes individual fares and SMS tickets more expensive on public transport. The price for standing in the usually Prague P + R car parks is also rising. On four, the daily stand costs 100 crowns and on nine 50 crowns. Standing for the remaining seven, which are not guarded, is now free for 12 hours. So far, drivers in all car parks except one have paid 20 crowns a day.
The P + R car park is used to get people commuting to Prague they left their cars and continued public transport, which is to facilitate traffic in the center.
“Every year we invest approximately 40 million crowns in the management and new parking lots, we expand their network, we ensure the quality of facilities and surroundings and we also focus on the implementation of new technologies. Tell the spokesperson of the city Technical Administration of Communications Barbora Lišková.
The largest increase concerns the car parks in Holešovice, Ládví, one of the car parks in Skalka and parking spaces near the Congress Center, where, as the only car park, people still pay more, namely 90 crowns a day. According to technical reports, these car parks have the best access to the center.
The second zone for 50 crowns applies to car parks further from the center, for example in Zličín, Černý Most, Jižní Město, Letňany or Radotín. The free parking zone applies to those car parks that are without staff, for example in Běchovice, Kotlářka or Troja outside the regime for zoo visitors.
So far, drivers have paid 20 crowns for all-day parking at all congress centers in all car parks. Drivers must leave at night, otherwise additional fees apply. The price rose in 2011 from ten crowns. According to the Technical Administration of Communications, the capacity has increased by 1,500 parking spaces since then and more will be added. Start next year, for example, the currently built parking house in Černý Most should open for approximately half a billion crowns, with 880 parking spaces available. According to TSK, other car parks will appear in the coming years, for example, in Hostivař, Čakovice or Podbaba.
The city’s action is criticized by the Prague opposition representative and deputy mayor of Prague 11, Ondřej Prokop (YES). “This is another of the incomprehensible steps of the coalition of Mayor (Zdeněk) Hřib. P + R should motivate people to park their car and switch to public transport. With such a dramatic increase, it can be found that, on the contrary, even those who use parking today would rather drive to the center, “said Prokop. According to him, the increase in the price of P + R goes against pre-election promises and makes life in Prague more expensive, when, for example, the price of water, waste collection or real estate tax has already risen.
In Prague, the tariff for public transport has also been changing since August. The ticket for 30 minutes is more expensive from 24 to 30 crowns and the 90-minute ticket from 32 to 40 crowns. SMS tickets are also more expensive, in the case of a 30-minute from 24 to 31 crowns and 90 minutes from 32 to 42 crowns. A new tariff will be created for people in material need, who pay CZK 165 per month. The prices of monthly and annual coupons were maintained. The procedure of the city leadership was criticized by the opposition, which said that it was a further increase in the price of life in Prague.
