The repair was delayed. Clam-Gallas Palace will probably not be finished this year
Reconstruction of the complex on Mariánské náměstí began in October 2018. The repairs concern both the interiors and the three gardens. The building used to house the Archive of the Capital City of Prague, which gradually moved to a new building in Chodovec until 2017. After the reconstruction, there should be a restaurant and wine bar in the palace, and expositions and exhibition spaces in the representation halls.
Repairing a baroque gem will become more expensive
“We have successfully carried out rough construction work, which has revealed a lot of the unexpected. This resulted in many project modifications, which slowed down the construction process, ”explained Vít Hofman.
The building is in the hands of restorers
He added that now mainly restorers are moving on the construction site. “For example, wooden floor structures, figural and non-figurative stone decorations, paintings, frescoes, wallpaper, stucco and more are being restored. After completing these activities, the interior’s original beauty and splendor should be embedded, “said the spokesman.

According to him, the work also continues in the exteriors, where tiling and preparatory work for gardeners began in the gardens near Rotto and behind the Terezka fountain. “Scaffolding is also being built to renovate the building’s façade. After the completion of the individual scaffolding, we also carry out a survey of the façade layers, after the evaluation of which the final color shade of the building’s façade should be determined, “concluded a spokesman for Hofman.
The city canceled
The reconstruction of the palace belonged to the project from 2010, in the framework of which the city management wanted to repair the New Town Hall building and Mariánské náměstí itself in connection with the architectural competition. Together, these were investments worth more than 1.2 billion crowns. However, the city some time ago canceled the tender for the contractor due to high costs.
