Prague will switch to another bus line for electricity. It will also run on batteries
The plan envisages the construction of an overhead contact line in approximately 58% of the lengths of the routes, with the rest of the trolleybuses running on batteries. This is another area where Prague should achieve a switch from diesel to electricity.
The current Trojská and Letňany exchange plants are used for power supply. It is now necessary to check the creation of new exchange offices in the localities of Střížkov, Toužimská and Černý Most. The project of electrification of lines 201 also includes the necessary expansion of charging capacities in the Klíčov garage, which also creates the necessary reserve for the possibility of controlling battery trolleybuses and electric buses for lines in the northeastern part of Prague in connection with the establishment of charging infrastructures in Letňany, Čakovice, Kbel and the like.
The estimated amount of costs for the project preparation of the plan is approximately 20 million crowns, and for the electrification of line No. 201 about 600 million crowns.
One third of the buses will run on electricity by 2030
“Line 201 between Nádraží Holešovice and Černý Most is important throughout the city. At the same time, it passes through the busy V Holešovičkách Street, where the negative impacts of diesel buses on local residents from noise and emissions will be reduced. We have promised that by 2024 there will be a fifth less emissions in Prague and by 2030 we want to drive a third of the buses powered by electricity, “said the mayor of transport, Adam Scheinherr.
Dopravní podnik hl. The City of Prague (DPP) has already concluded a contract with Škoda Electric for the supply of 14 electric buses. A tender is running for 20 large-capacity trolleybuses with dynamic charging for the line to the airport. “We will announce public contracts for the purchase of 140 hybrid buses, 15 articulated trolleybuses and 45 battery trolleybuses for electrification of lines on the left bank of the Vltava. In addition to the purchase of new vehicles, we are also preparing the charging infrastructure for lines 119 and 140, ”added Scheinherr.
DPP is currently preparing several development projects for the electrification of bus lines. This involves the electrification of lines in the left-bank part of Prague (lines No. 119, No. 131, No. 137, No. 176 and No. 191) and in the north-eastern part of Prague (line No. 140 from Palmovka to Miškovice).
In all the mentioned requirements, the use of the technology of so-called dynamic charging (In Motion Charging) is taken into account, when the existing diesel buses will be replaced by ecological and higher battery trolleybuses. The project of line no. 140 is already before the start, when a public contract for the selection of a construction contractor is currently being prepared.
