The footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists will connect the city districts of Prague 7 and Prague 8 with the island of Štvanice and will become the 18th connection of the banks of the Vltava in Prague. “There will also be a beautiful view of Hradčany. At the same time, thanks to it, we can get from Karlín in front of the gate of the Holešovice market within a few minutes. The island of Štvanice is also undergoing a total transformation and will become a new park. The cycle paths leading along the river on both banks will also be connected, “said Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Minister for Transport.

The location of the footbridge follows the zoning plan. On the Holešovice side, the entrance will be located on Bubenské nábřeží in front of the gate to the Prague Market Square and on Karlín’s side on Rohanské nábřeží with an exit to the cycle path leading along the flood barrier and subsequently to the well-known public space of Rohan Island. Access to the footbridge will also be on Štvanice.
The construction of HolKy is also coordinated with four other important events in the area. On that occasion, Prague will reconstruct the intersection of Bubenské nábřeží and Argentinské, will also repair the tram line, and Bubenské nábřeží will also undergo a complete reconstruction, which will become a wide barrier-free promenade. It replaces the existing two narrow sidewalks, where parents with a pram have trouble entering. The hundred-year-old sewerage system will also be reconstructed.
The city promises to put the “HolKa” footbridge into operation in two years. Štvanice will also be modified
The appearance of HolKa came from an international architectural and design competition and the winning form is from the authors Petr Tej, Marek Blank and Jan Mourek. The structure does not go high and will not prevent pedestrians and cyclists from looking at Prague, the water and the trees. HolKa will be built of noble material, ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) with a glossy white marble surface. There will be a comfortable and easy access to the footbridge, its design also takes into account the requirements of flood protection and barrier-free access to the footbridge.
