Cinemas will survive, says big film producer The Gray Man
Can you please briefly introduce The Gray Man and describe what specific role your company has in this project?
The Gray Man is a feature film produced by Netflix. It is directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, whom you probably know as the creator of the Marengers Avengers. Starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Stillking Films started participating in this project almost a year ago, when they called me from Netflix and offered us cooperation. We are a multinational production company that essentially assists Hollywood filmmakers with filmmaking in Central and Eastern Europe. We arrange for various things, such as finding suitable filming locations, hiring extras and crew members, we negotiate with local authorities and we supply the creators with everything they need for their work in the given place.
Did you encounter any problems while filming in Prague?
No, everything is going great so far. We shot everything we needed. The stunt scenes turned out great. Except for a bit bad weather, we can’t complain. The directors are satisfied and at the same time enjoy the fact that they can be in Prague. They really like it here.
One thing surprised me a lot. It is said that you also shot scenes here, which are to take place in Bangkok. Was it difficult to transform Prague into an Asian metropolis? And why didn’t you actually go right there?
As much as 95 percent of the material we shoot here really takes place in Prague. However, we have a few scenes in the script that are supposed to represent Vienna and Bangkok. There is no point in moving the entire staff to Vienna for a few shots. Moreover, disguising Prague as Vienna is not difficult. We were originally supposed to go to Thailand. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic prevented us from doing so. Due to the limitations, everything got complicated, so we decided to do the scene from Bangkok in Prague as well. It was not easy, but in the end we found a suitable place. The visual creators will take care of the rest.
