In the metropolis, tests on Wednesday revealed 69 new cases, which is almost half the number.
The numbers in Prague are at a similar level as at the end of May, but at that time the national numbers of detected cases were around seven hundred and Prague was certainly not the worst region.
As the head of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS) Ladislav Dušek stated on Wednesday, coronavirus is currently spreading in the metropolis mainly among young people in the age group 16 to 29, who show less interest in vaccination than the rest of the population and have more social behavior. contacts.
The total numbers of new cases remain low, and the number of hospitalized patients, which are about fifty in hospitals with covid, is not growing either.
Dušek admitted that the current development is not surprising and can be observed in other countries. At the same time, he reminded that the epidemic was similarly consumed last year, when in the autumn it resulted in another wave of diseases. Now a large part of the population has not been vaccinated, on the contrary, it is still not possible to rely on collective immunity, because a certain part of people have refused vaccination and do not even have immunity after illness.
The development of the epidemic is also evidenced by the growing reproductive number, which reached 1.2 on Thursday, which shows how many other people a person with a confirmed infection can theoretically infect.
