After a major reconstruction, the Prague State Opera was reopened to the public in a few years. The Prague architectural studio Masák & Partner performed a number of construction and restoration works, which added original beauty and shine. In addition to modernization, the elaboration of the project in the BIM methodology is also interesting.
“The Prague State Opera, one of the most important Czech monuments, has undergone a comprehensive reconstruction of both the historical part and the operational part of the theater. During the reconstruction, there were significant construction and restoration interventions, as well as a drastic modernization of theater technologies. From a technical point of view, thanks to these modifications, the State Opera has become the most modern theater stage in the Czech Republic, which will survive on a global scale, ”says project author Jan Luštický, with whom Martin Růžička, Jakub Masák and Jaroslav Svěrek collaborated on the project.
“The volume of construction and restoration work was enormous. The sculptural decoration is also restored in detail. It is especially worth mentioning the busts of Schiller, Goethe and Mozart on the facade of the building. These were destroyed after World War II and it was thought that they would never return to the facade of the Opera, because the documentation of their appearance has not been preserved. However, we knew that the historic building of the State Opera in Prague was designed and built by the company Fellmer and Helmer, which at the same time worked, for example, at the Zurich Opera, where busts of the same greats were placed. It is therefore because they were identical. So only the 3D scan bust remained to be secured, and on their basis copies were created, which now adorn the facade of the State Opera building, ”adds the studio. The reconstruction is so successful that the project is nominated for the Czech Architecture Prize.
