Summer is starting. So Prague is again looking for its Christmas tree on the Old Town Square
Those interested can send their tips on conifers, which are suitable for standing in the heart of the Czech capital. Photographs and descriptions of the trees can be sent to the public until October 1, 2021. The winner will receive a symbolic financial reward.
“Praguers have already lost two Easter and one Christmas markets. I believe that the situation is already improving and everyone will enjoy their favorite welder under this year’s Christmas tree. Therefore, I would like to ask the public again to send us the types for the trees that will become this year’s Advent landmark of the Old Town Square, “says Petr Hozák, Chief Operating Officer of Taiko. Whoever offers the winning tree or gives a tip for it will receive ten thousand crowns according to the rules of the competition.
As they said, they did. Students made furniture from the Christmas tree for the elderly
Anyone can give a tip for this year’s Christmas tree. The most suitable is a conifer, Norway spruce, which can be found on private land and public spaces.
Those interested can send tips on trees that are so-called overgrown and are starting to be dangerous to their surroundings (parks, gardens, public spaces, etc.), so it is necessary to cut them down for safety reasons, or stand on building plots. It is essential that they are healthy, as judged by dendrologists at Mendel University.
Isn’t the tree yours? Does not matter
In the private year, a tree that grew not far from Prague on a plot of land resembled the festive atmosphere in the center of the metropolis. The Norway spruce that Taiko selected last year was 17.5 meters long and about 40 years old.
Anyone can provide a tip for a suitable tree and may not even be the owner of the tree. Just know about the interesting spruce and point it out. All the trees that adorned the Old Town Square during previous years had to be felled for security or planned construction activities.
Trees like “hens in a cage” disputed experts. Prague has a problem with caring for greenery
The ideal tree is Norway spruce. It must have even branching, a regular trunk and should be about 23 to 25 meters tall. Subsequently, it will be adjusted to a safe height of 22 meters.
It can grow anywhere in the Czech Republic. It just needs to be easily accessible for heavy machinery, as it must not be damaged during felling. A crane and a tractor with a semi-trailer must get close to it. The tree is placed directly on the prepared semi-trailer during felling so that the branches are not damaged. The loaded tree is about four to five meters wide after securing the branches.

On the first day of November this year, the organizers will select a suitable candidate. If all goes according to plan, the tree should light up on Old Town Square in Prague on Saturday, November 27, 2021.
