Prague – The Irish clothing chain Primark will open a store in Prague, the first in the Czech Republic, on June 17. The Czech market will become the fourteenth in which the company operates. The company has created more than 300 jobs there, it said in a press release today. The store will be located on three floors of a newly built multifunctional building, the so-called The Flow Building, located on the corner of Wenceslas Square and Opletalova Street. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Primark postponed the start of operations, which was originally planned for last May.
The store with an area of 4600 square meters will open to customers at 09:00. In addition to clothing, footwear and accessories, it also offers cosmetics and household accessories. The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 21:00, on Sunday between 10:00 and 20:00.
The Prague store will open as 396. “This is an important new market for the company, as we continue to expand in Central and Eastern Europe,” said Maciej Podwojski, regional manager for Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. Primark announced last year that it would open its second store in the Czech Republic in Brno. He signed a lease in the Olympia shopping center. The branch should start operating next year. The company is also planning to expand to Slovakia, where it has concluded a lease agreement for the opening of the first local store, it said today.
Primark is very popular with Czech consumers. Before the pandemic, buses from several cities, such as Brno or Hradec Králové, went to the nearest foreign stores. People especially appreciate the favorable prices. The company says it uses a different strategy than other clothing chains. “We have almost no advertising, you won’t see us on TV. We only sell products in brick-and-mortar stores – we don’t have an e-shop or a delivery network. We reduce it by saving on small things, such as hangers or price tags,” she said.
Primark stores in England and Wales recorded the highest in more than three months in the first week after the reopening, according to information from the BBC server from mid-April. The chain’s losses during the forced closure reached about £ 1.1 billion (CZK 33 billion). However, since opening, more than half of the stores have broken their own sales records.
