The man was robbed on an escalator at the exit of the Želivského metro station on Tuesday before noon. According to security camera footage, the woman snatched the bag she had escaped from his hand. The senior tried to chase her, but lost on the escalator and fell. During the fall, he suffered moderate injuries, severe concussions, several fractures and remained unconscious.
A 29-year-old woman suspected of the theft was caught by criminal investigators in cooperation with the Central Station security guard within a few hours. He is currently facing charges of theft and crime measures, counterfeiting and alteration of the means of payment. It faces up to two years in prison.
Although it was clear that the senior lying helplessly at the end of the escalator had suffered serious injuries and needed help, several people walked indifferently around him. The ambulance that took the man to the hospital was called by a subway worker.
Police are now searching for five people who did not provide first aid to the injured. They face up to two years in prison. “If you know these people in the footage or know where they might be staying, please call 158,” said Prague police spokeswoman Violeta Siřišťová.
