Prague Zoo is building a giant gorilla pavilion. It brings visitors closer to the African countryside
“The pavilion is designed to bring visitors closer to the African countryside. You will walk through an African village, where there will also be a school classroom, and gradually you will dive into a forest with trees and greenery, where a view of the gorilla clearing will open, “said Miroslav Bobek, director of the Prague Zoo. where the Prague breeding has its long-term foreign mission.
Sad news from the Prague Zoo. The female gorilla Bikira died
The existing dwellings of primates from the late 1990s are already unsatisfactory. In 2002 and 2013 he was flooded by floods, at first the male gorillas died, the second time the nurses took the family to the tower and went to feed it on a boat. “Evacuating a gorilla group from a flood tower would be a deadly action. In addition, the pavilion is obsolete with regard to gorillas and visitors, “explained Bobek.
The largest exposure
Gorilinec will provide its inhabitants with two separate rooms. “Adolescent males need to move away from the groups, this is due to their social way of life,” said mammal curator Pavel Brandl. So far, all gorillas live together in Prague. According to Brandl, the training of animals to move has been going on since last year.
The new center is primarily intended to educate visitors. Around 150 people will be able to move comfortably in the pavilion, and another 150 listeners can sit on the cascade bench in front of the main exhibition during the lectures.
The zoo has a new pavilion. There are also birds confiscated by smugglers
In addition to peaceful lowland gorillas, other primates such as guereza, Brazz’s vertebrate and northern talapoin, as well as giant hamster rodents and African aspen, will be able to observe more than five centimeters of glass, and the Egyptian fruit bat will fly here.
The future largest exposition of the Prague Zoo is located outside the main area of the outdoor giraffe enclosure, across the Pod Hrachovkou road you can get here comfortably after crossing the footbridge.

The architecturally unique building was designed by the designers so that it protrudes into the surroundings, which ensures its partial embedding and green roof. Construction began in the autumn of 2019 and will require 300 million crowns from the municipal coffers.
