PRAGUE

Cinemas in Prague opened. So far, only the smaller, multiplex cinemas are waiting

Sugar Mizzy May 24, 2021

The cinema has been closed since last October 12, and the operators add up losses in the tens to hundreds of millions. The cinemas may reopen on Monday, May 24, but anti-epidemic measures will be required.

Halls can only occupy 50 percent of their capacity and operators cannot serve refreshments. Viewers will also need to wear a respirator and it will also be necessary to prove infectivity at the entrance. in practice, this means that it is necessary to have 3 weeks after the first achievement9 against covid- Co1. Another option is a negative antigen or PCR test.

Complicated snacks

With a visit to the cinema, there is traditionally a snack or a drink. Viewers will have to wait for both. The measures do not yet allow the consumption of drinks or food. It is for these reasons that she decided not to open large multiplex cinemas. “Long-term surveys show that that if he can’t consume it, half the people won’t come to the cinema, “Jan Bradáč, director of the CineStar multiplex cinema network, told ČTK.

Just as multi-cinema viewers combine popcorn or lemonade with a visit, so do visitors to Lucerna, for example. But here they are going to open. “Our spectator has a visit to the cinema inextricably linked to sitting with a coffee before the screening, or with a glass of wine after the screening. So it won’t be completely like that without a cafe. We are basically on the same ship with multiplex cinemas, ”Says Bedřich Němec, Operations and Program Director of Kina Lucerna, says Pro Blesk.

The Presence cinema has a bit more complicated situations. About a year ago, a completely new concept was created here – the so-called boutique cinema, which connects the hall directly with the bar and gives visitors another dimension to the experience. Despite the need to have the bar closed, this cinema will also open. “The presence is based on consumption in the hall, so we will wait for the introduction of news when it will be possible to open the bar. So far, we have a capacity of 50 seats, so that everyone feels safe and comfortable to explain behind the Přítom cinema Jiří Šebesta.

They bet on premieres in Aero, Oku or Evalda

So where in Prague to enjoy the right atmosphere of the big screen, comfortable seats and, most importantly, peace, when nothing will distract you from the surroundings? Probably the largest offer can be found at the distribution company Aerofilms, which operates three cinemas in Prague – Světozor, Aero and Bio Oko.

“We are preparing exclusive previews of films from the Aerofilms distribution for our audiences, which they will be the first to see in our cinemas. This is the film We still have time with Viggo Mortensen, the Romanian film Smolný pich or Stupid Porn and in June the French comedy Toast, “attracts viewers Sabina Coufalová from Aerofilms.

“Kino Aero will continue its special editions – Double Feature with Jan Švankmajer or Masters of Animation with Prince’s Way,” adds Coufalová. Visitors to the Aero Cinema will have an added plus. The cinema has a garden in the courtyard, so it’s no problem to have a coffee or a glass of cold beer before you start.

Viewers who could not be shown due to the coronavirus can also look forward to the Evald and Atlas cinemas. “Viewers can look forward to films that did not manage to be distributed last autumn, and gradually to new films made during the pandemic, “says Ondra Trantina of Cinemarzt Plus, which operates the cinemas. Seniors can also spend pleasant afternoons in Evald, who have a discount on special afternoon performances – the ticket costs only 65 crowns.

One World Festival to Commemorate Lucerne

In Lucerne, they are betting on a selection of films from the One World festival, which had to take place online. “Thanks to the opening of cinemas, however, several films will eventually make it to the big screens of this festival. We will present the show “One World in Cinemas” from June 1st to 7th. At the beginning of June, we will also present a one-day invitation to the Noir Film Festival, which is produced at Český Šternberk Castle in the summer. As part of this invitation, he will offer me two feature films from the golden “noir” American classic, “says Bedřich Němec.

There is interest in tickets

Definitely positive news for all cinemas is that it already had a reservation for the evening screening during Monday morning. “Advance sales look very favorable, The previews of the film Smolný pich or Stupid Porn are mainly sold, and some performances are approaching the almost sold-out permitted capacity. The Oscar-winning film Booze is also selling very well. The fact is that people did not know visiting the cinema and are looking forward to movies on the big screenCoufalová from Aero praises. The operators of Lucerna and Evalda also agree, who also sold several dozen tickets on Monday morning.
