The tram in new colors is already running through Prague. Ovčáček reacted
The new look of public transport cars was approved by Prague councilors in August last year, and one SOR bus is already running in new colors in the metropolis. The design competition cost two million crowns and was won by the studio superlative works, for which it also earned a professional award.
However, the public received the new color of public transport relatively lukewarmly, there was a lot of criticism. Opposition representatives also criticized the plan. However, the repainting of all means of public transport in Prague will not cost anything – trams, buses and metro cars will be dressed in a new guise during repairs. Newly purchased machines will also get a gray-June PID version.
“The tram underwent another repair, so the new paint or sticker would be made anyway, so we are going in exactly the direction we indicated when we announced the results of the design competition,” Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself) told reporters.
The tram will leave the depot in Kobylisy. In the coming weeks, the new car will also appear on routes 3, 8 and 10.
No extra money
The exact plan for how the trams will be repainted is not set. Only those that need to be repaired receive a new design. “We have a bus schedule. For trams, it will depend on how they go to the repair, so that it does not cost any extra money, “said Petr Witowski, CEO of DPP.
In the future, each car will have stickers on its fronts and stickers on the sides. This is because if there is advertising on the tram, then removing it will damage the paint and repainting would be more expensive. At the same time, all parts on the car are color-matched so that the color does not overlap more than one of them. “We made sure that the parts were arranged in color so that we had no work to do during maintenance and repairs,” said Witowski.
The first swallows at the end of the year
In the case of buses, DPP has issued contracts for the purchase of new cars, provided that they are shown in new colors. “I think at the end of the year we will have the first swallows that we will start coming in these colors,” said Witowski. All buses will be in a new form within about ten years.

In the past, the city management justified the change mainly by the fact that the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) system is gradually expanding from Prague to the Central Bohemian Region, and at the same time is a good time to unify the appearance of cars throughout the system. the PID ticket is valid for the means of transport.
PID includes the territory of Prague and part of the Central Bohemian Region and consists of its Prague metro, tram and bus lines, as well as suburban bus lines and trains marked with the letter S. The PID also includes the Petřín cable car. The system has uniform driving and tariff conditions and timetables are created so that they follow each other for individual modes of transport.
