Prague Pride deserves 650,000, attracts tourists, and defends Hřib’s criticism
“This is one of the most effective support for tourism. Tens of thousands of tourists will come to Prague, we need everyone. Moreover, Prague Pride is not just a carnival parade, it is a weekly festival tolerance, “defended the Hřib grant on Twitter, noting that many educational events, lectures and workshops are also associated with the events.

The representatives discussed the fax festival at the March meeting, but did not decide on the allocation of the subsidy at that time. As expected, the votes of the representatives of ANO and ODS were missing for approval (only Bohuslav Svoboda was in favor) and, in addition, some representatives of TOP 09 and STAN abstained.
“It is a sad business card of these parties,” lamented the councilor for culture Hana Třeštíková (Prague herself) on Twitter.
Among the biggest critics of the amount of the grant is Wolf People, who has been a councilor for culture in the past. When Mayor Hřib decided to repeat the vote on the subsidy in April after a previous failure, he criticized it.
“We have April, we had this event here in March, we put it to the vote, and it did not pass. If it does not pass today, we will vote on it in May. If it does not pass, we will vote for them in June … “
Wolf suggested that these funds be given to single women. At the same time, he dug into the Pirates that their procession is always attended by their representatives, who, according to him, will conduct a pre-election campaign two months before the elections to the Chamber of Deputies.
The opposition representative and deputy mayor of Prague 11, Ondřej Prokop (YES), proposed that Prague give the event a patronage, but due to the situation, the subsidy threatens 250,000.
It did not pass, but even so, the subsidy decreased compared to previous years. In 2019, Prague donated CZK 800,000 to the festival together with a contribution of CZK 100,000, and last year it amounted to CZK 1 million.
The festival of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals took place in Prague for the first time in 2010. The parade was led by, for example, the expressor Adriana Krnáčová (YES).
With the arrival of the mayor of Hřiby in 2018, the city also began to support the event by hoisting a rainbow flag on the New Town Hall building.
