Převalský’s horses ride in Dívčí hrady. Zoo begs: I’m not feeding anything!
The staff of the Prague Zoo brought the first four mares from the kennel in Dolní Dobřejov to Divčí hrady, and in time a stallion should join them.
Lana sea was born in August 2016 in the German Kölner Zoo and came to Dolní Dobřejov three years ago.
Khamiina is a four-year-old mare from Tierpark Berlin in Germany. He has lived in Dolní Dobřejov since 2019.
Gruhne comes from the Belgian Reserve d’Animaux Sauvage, where he was born in July 2017 and from where she traveled to the kennel two years later.
Xicara she was even born directly in the Troja area of the Prague Zoo – in July 2018.
According to the spokesperson Lucie Dosedělová, the selection of mares took place in such a way that the greatest possible genetic diversity was guaranteed for the future reproduction of this group of Převalský horses.
“The purpose of this project is not only to revitalize the historic site, but also with the help of wild horses, which will graze grass, contribute to ensuring that the original communities of plants and animals do not even return,” said zoo director Miroslav Bobek in a press release. “It is also important for us that the people of Prague will see Převalský’s horses at Dívčí hrady at a time when we will be rebuilding their stables and enclosures at the zoo.”
The action partially replaces the transport of this endangered species to western Mongolia. Return of wild horses to the original homeland available by CASA military aircraft. This year marks ten years since the first move. Last year, however, the situation with the infectious covid-19 virus does not allow migration.
Three viewpoints, cameras and an electric fence
Prague Zoo will at least offer an experience to residents and visitors to the Czech capital. “People will be able to watch the animals from three vantage points with wheelchair access. One of them is elevated, and will therefore provide not only a single view of the horse itself, but also of the panorama of Prague, “said Dosedělová, a spokeswoman.
The zoo staff and the camera system will supervise the enclosure. Inside is an electric fence that prevents the herd from approaching the fence. At first glance, the release of Převalský’s horses at Divčí hrady looks idyllic, but…
“We are most worried that people will not hold on and will want to feed the horses. Really everyone please don’t do this! You can cause them serious health problems or even a painful death, “Miroslav Bobek, the director of the municipality, emphasized. “Please, not a piece of bread or a carrot. Don’t give them anything at all. “
The site enlivened by horses is followed by the natural monument Ctirad, beautiful views are provided by basically the entire walk over the left bank of the Vltava to the former fort Děvín. There used to be a castle of the same name, probably built in the 14th century by Štěpán of Tetín. However, the castle was probably quickly abandoned, but traces can still be found.
“Probably the most beautiful view is from the lookout point above the Hlubočepské plates. From there, the road leads steeply down to Hlubočep and empties at the beginning of the Prokop Valley, “reads the online guides. Don’t really feed such a happy journey and Převalský’s horses!
