According to the police, around nine o’clock a white van drove along the tram lane, drove in the opposite direction and then broke through the railing on the tram island and collided with groups of passengers waiting for the tram. “Based on an initial investigation, the police found out that the cause of the car accident was the medical condition of the van driver,” spokeswoman Violeta Siřišťová presented on a Twitter account.
The spokeswoman for the Prague ambulance, Jana Poštová, reports that the dispatch center sent three ambulance crews, a medical crew and a traffic inspector to the stop of the Military Hospital in Na Petřinách Street. Even air rescuers had to intervene to transport the patient to the hospital by helicopter. Firefighters did not have to rescue anyone, they only secured the scene of the accident against the fire.

I was shocked, the witness said
A reporter for Pražský deník at the scene of the accident also spoke to the driver of one of the cars with which the van, which was being driven by a man with health problems, collided before stopping at a tram stop. “It simply came to our notice then. The van suddenly rushed in the opposite direction and struck my mirror, then drove to a bus stop. I was shocked, “sobbed the obviously shaken woman. Other witnesses also claimed that the driver had health problems. So he was also taken care of by rescuers. Police spokeswoman Siřišťová informed that the alcohol test was negative.
Fortunately, the initial fear that it was a deliberate act reminiscent of the horrific case of Olga Hepnarová was not confirmed. In 1973, with a borrowed truck, she drove to a stop on Defenders of Peace (now Milady Horáková) and killed eight people at the time. In March 1975, a mentally disturbed murderess became the last woman executed in Czechoslovakia.
Wednesday’s intervention by the components of the Integrated Rescue System, also affected by Prague’s public transport. The temporary restriction applies to tram lines 1 and 2. According to transport company website (DPP) trams run through Malovanka and Hládkov. “Alternative bus transport X1 is run in both directions in the section Sídliště Petřiny – Vozovna Střešovice,” wrote DPP, who recommends the use of parallel bus lines 108 and 216 or the direction of metro A from Petřiny station when traveling towards the center.
Tram traffic was resumed before eleven o’clock. Then eliminate the consequences of the monster accident before closing one lane.
