Further pressure on the faster railway Prague – Liberec. The regional policies of the three countries are preparing a memorandum
According to the governor, it is not possible for the train time between Liberec and the capital to correspond to the 19th century.
The Liberec Region is preparing a joint international memorandum in cooperation with some politicians in Saxony and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. In it, they will require the necessary railway connection Görlitz (Görlitz) -Liberec-Prague to the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T Comprehensive Network. He believes that such a procedure will accelerate endless debates about a faster connection between Prague and Liberec by rail.
“Liberec is still the only regional city without a quality railway connection to the capital of the republic and beyond the Czech borders. By connecting the railway line from Görlitz via Liberec to Prague to the European network, we could more efficiently draw financial support from European sources, and thus make the train connection a safe form of transport. It is not possible for us to continue to travel by train from Liberec to Prague during the same travel times as in the 19th century, “Said President Martin Půta.
However, the statement about a single regional city without a good connection by train with the capital is not entirely true. The journey to Prague by road from Jihlava and Karlovy Vary is significantly faster. However, both cities have at least an electrified railway. According to Půta, the Ministry of Transport could then apply the requirements especially to the European Commission.
Faster so far only from Prague to Mladá Boleslav
“Even after almost fifteen years, when the entire Trinity is part of the so-called Schengen area, this area does not connect quality public transport. Currently, all TEN-T routes bypass us. We would therefore like to change this to make the region competitive across Europe. “ added the statutory deputy for the Ministry of Transport Jan Sviták.
In addition, the connection of the Görlitz – Liberec – Prague line to the European network could guarantee not only transport options in the region itself, but also connect the route with other European capitals, such as Berlin, Dresden or Wrocław. The main objective of TEN-T policy is to strengthen economic cohesion between European countries and regions and to improve the efficiency and sustainability of transport.
The faster railway connection Prague – Liberec has been talked about for decades, but no change. So far, the last hope for faster travel are the planned modifications of the connection between Prague and Mladá Boleslav in the form of the Všejanská and Bezděčínská connections.
