By 2025, Prague wants 750 charging stations for electric cars
In total, it wants to have Prague up to 4,500 places with the possibility of charging within ten years, and street lamps are also to be used
At least 750 charging stations for electric cars should be put into operation in Prague by 2025. In the next five years, several thousand more should be created. This follows from a document approved by Prague councilors on Monday. Today, the city management approved a plan for the development of the charging infrastructure, which proposes several variants of the procedure for their construction. The expansion of electromobility is to help improve air quality in Prague.
According to the mentioned at least 750 charging stations, it should be put into operation within about five years. They will be created both in the new public lighting lamps and outside them. “In the next stage of the timetable until 2030, it assumes that the goal of building the station should be to establish a total of 4,500 parking charging stations,” it is written in the document. He also counts on the creation of fast charging stations.
The approved development concept proposes five options for building a network of charging points. They differ both in the amount of costs and the amount of reduced emissions. The most expensive option, the so-called investment model, envisages costs of up to two billion. According to a Deloitte study commissioned by the city, the establishment of a joint venture between cities and one of the companies and concessions for the construction and operation of stations are based on the best strategy.
According to the study, they must be evenly distributed throughout Prague and people should pay the lowest possible market price for electricity to the lowest possible station. The city team maximizes the motivation to switch to electric cars. The production of electricity from renewable sources will be used as much as possible.
“Now it has been commissioned by the municipal company ICT Operator to develop two variants of possible support for electromobility, respectively the development of charging infrastructure. Either in the form of a concession with a private entity or by setting up a joint venture, provided that the city does not invest any purely financial resources in it, “ said Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates). By 2030, according to the city’s forecast, up to 200,000 electric cars are to run in Prague.
To create charging points in street lighting lamps, it is necessary to provide the necessary power consumption. “That is why last year we launched the renewal of the public lighting network, when we are strengthening the transmission system. We anticipate that the lamps should become a pillar of the system of so-called slow charging of electric cars in the future, “ said councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09).
In addition to the establishment of charging stations for electric cars and gas cars, the Prague management wants to support other alternative modes of transport, namely car sharing or adjusting prices in parking zones for electric cars and hybrid cars. It will also work on the introduction of tolls. Last October, councilors approved a Strategy to Support Alternative Drives by 2030.
Last year, Prague representatives announced a climate commitment in Prague, in which the city wants to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45 percent by 2030, and by 2050 it wants the metropolis to be carbon-free. At the same time, they approved measures to achieve this, such as the purchase of energy from renewable sources, the reduction of solid fuel heating or the promotion of cars with non-internal combustion engines.
