Instead of gravel asphalt. The most important Prague cycle path will get a new surface
“I am very happy that we have finally managed to obtain a building permit and this important cycle path can get a new surface. This is a section between the Libeň Bridge and Šaldova Street, in total the new asphalt will receive a section about 1.1 kilometers long, “said Tomáš Slabihoudek (TOP09 + STAN), a councilor for transport.
The A2 cycle path is one of the most important routes for bicycle lovers in the metropolis, it runs along the right bank of the Vltava River from south to north and its length is a total of 31 km. Part of it is occupied by the coastal section in the territory of Prague 8.
“This is good news not only for all cyclists who ride here a lot, but for everyone else who walks or runs here. Skaters will also ride on the paved surface, “Martin Jedlička (TOP 09 + STAN), chairman of the local transport commission, explained the plans of the city district. “In addition to the new asphalt, public lighting will also be added, which will further expand the possibilities of use,” added Slabihoudek.
Construction is scheduled to begin on February 9 and last until the end of April. However, representatives of the town hall remind that the completion date may be postponed depending on the weather: “The goal is to complete the construction before the main cycling season, so that the restriction of cyclists and pedestrians is kept to a minimum.” According to Slabihoudek, on Rohan Island with restrictions, although a detour will be prepared for cyclists.
So far, this is the first section of the A2 cycle path in Prague 8 to receive a new surface. However, the city district wants to sweep the surface in the rest of this cycle path on Rohan Island and also plans to repair the asphalt surface on the section of the A26 cycle path in the section U Českých lodinic – Povltavská, followed by the completion of the missing section A2 along the Vltava bank.
