The passage from the railway station in Žižkov is a reality. Penta used the old luggage tunnel
This is a temporary journey until the Railway Administration puts the full passage into operation
This week, after years of futile calls, the Žižkov public received direct and legal access to the main railway station and its metro station. However, the credit was not given to the Railway Administration, which is still in the process of building a new subway, but to the Penta investment group.
She rented and cultivated the old luggage tunnel from the seventh platform as an adjoining makeshift sidewalk and opened it to the public. The tunnel was painted, fitted with new lights; freight elevators were replaced with new passenger ones.
“This new route will thus shorten the journey from Vinohrady and Žižkov directly to the main railway station until the Railway Subway is extended by the Railway Administration, which we expect to be completed by the end of 2021,” Penta said at their site.
Over the last three years, Penta has built the Churchill Square office and shopping complex on the Žižkov side of the station complex. At the end of last year at the same time she boastedthat he managed to sell it for four billion to Českomoravská realitníní and Corporate Finance House Group. Whether the “underpass” activities are somehow related to the transaction is clear.
In the meantime, the Railway Administration has been building a full-fledged passage from the Žižkov railway station since last May; according to the ideas of the SŽ management, the northern approach on the platform should actually become a new street between two parts of the city. It will be possible to walk through the railway station from Vrchlický sady in Žižkov and at the same time avoid the unattractive U Bulhara crossroads.
In addition to the stairs, the Žižkov exit from the underpass will also be provided by a pair of escalators and a lift. In addition, the extension of the underpass will be designed so that it will be possible to expand the station with another island platform in the future. The cost is 220 million crowns. The plan is delayed, according to the original plans, construction was to begin about a year earlier.
