Prague 5 – parking zones: It is planned to expand to Barrandov, to Hlubočep, to Zlíchov
The elaboration of the study of the extension of the system in Barrandov was approved by the city council at the end of November. Last week, it added an assignment to check further expansion to Žvahov, Zlíchov and Hlubočep, where, according to the town hall management, parked cars could move from Barrandov. The documents for the town hall will be processed by the company MOZ Consult, both analyzes will cost a total of about half a million crowns.
The first was Smíchov
The zones in Prague 5 were first introduced in the central area of Smíchov, gradually expanding east along Plzeňská Street, south along the river and into residential areas such as Malvazinky or Košíře. The reason for the gradual expansion is the transfer of cars to areas without a zone.
Paid parking zones in the metropolis are operated by the capital, so their modifications must be approved by the city council. It has been a long-standing practice that the municipality’s management accepts the requirements of the city districts for zone modifications on its territory.
The zones first appeared in a modern form in 1996 in the part of Prague 1, where the effort to regulate traffic appeared as early as 1982. Subsequently, they were expanded and operate in Prague 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 16 and 22. Some town halls have not introduced them in their entire territory, but in selected parts and they are gradually expanding.
