Prague is saying goodbye to the legendary Karos, today they will leave for the last time
This Friday, the Transport Company of the Capital City of Prague will say goodbye to the last Karosa B 951 buses, which will replace low-floor and low-emission cars in operation.
Prague is symbolically saying goodbye to Karosa type B 951 buses. The machines manufactured between 2001 and 2007 have been in the service of DPP since 2002 and, according to available information, up to 131 cars were to be delivered to the Transport Company of the capital. But their life is coming to an end.
Due to age, higher emissions and in this new series also unsatisfactory construction, the machines are gradually being replaced. For the last service in regular public transport, DPP took to the streets a total of 14 machines. “Passengers and bus fans will be able to ride with them during the morning and afternoon rush hours on selected routes of lines 103, 123, 162, 165, 169, 175, 182, 185, 191 and 225,“States DPP on its website.
If you also want to say goodbye to the Karos, but you won’t have a chance to do so in person, don’t despair. There is a live broadcast of the event on Mall.tv, which you can also watch via Auto.cz. The transfer should start on line 191 from Řepy’s garages and could move to line 175 after lunch.
One stage of the DPP thus ends, but many regular passengers will certainly appreciate that from Saturday, December 5, all regular bus connections of the Prague public transport will be fully barrier-free. All new machines are low-floor and more environmentally friendly.
But Karosy will not disappear completely from Prague’s public transport. From Saturday 5 December, both the Karosa B951 and the articulated B 961 should appear on weekends and on retrofits on selected routes on lines 180 and 213.
“The retro bus service will start on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 8:18 a.m., on line number 213, leaving the 31st turnout from the turning point at the Želivského metro station. In retro operation, two Karos B 951 registration numbers 4998 and 4999, two articulated versions B 961 registration numbers 6379 and 6380, one Irisbus City Bus 12M 3468 and alternatively two Irisbus Citelis 3520 and alternative two cars will alternate.“Specifies on its website DPP.
Discarded bodies and spare parts for them will be available for purchase in the coming days, using envelope methods on the DPP website.
