Parking zones have earned more again. Prague will keep them in an emergency
The operation of ZPS in Prague 1 had the highest sovereign income, over 143 million crowns “net”. Half of the revenues were generated there by parking machines, the other by long-term licenses for residents and virtual parking meters.
For example, in Prague 2 there was a predominance of income from the terms of parking machines, while in the third part of the city it represents the strongest source of parking permits.
The negative balance of ZPS in Prague 9 is explained by the beginning of their implementation in the year and thus higher costs only associated with it and lower revenues. In the case of Prague 13, 16 and 22, the “arrears” from previous years also played a role. When the costs outweigh the revenues in the billing, the difference is covered by the municipality and the loss is transferred to the next billing. If the result is a surplus, it is divided equally between the city coffers and the city districts.
In connection with the current state of emergency, Prague is not considering suspending the validity of ZPS as during the spring “first wave” of coronavirus spread. At that time, they were temporarily canceled from March to almost mid-May. “There is another regulation, there is no lockdown, the economy is not stopped and it is not true that people should be at home,” said municipal spokesman Vít Hofman.
The pirate representative of Prague 4 presented the application
The opposition representative of Prague 4, Tibor Vansa (Pirates), also recently introduced his own web application, which can use a map to show specific places where they are likely to find a free parking space. According to Vansa, the data show that the introduction of ZPS in Prague freed up around 6,000 seats overnight, previously “blocked” by commuters or parked cars. During the day, there are even more than seven thousand places. However, the situation varies from street to street.
“The most attractive locations remain fully occupied, but the distance to the nearest vacancy has been significantly reduced. Within walking distance of 300 meters, you can find a street that is full of 70 percent, “said the author of the application and municipal policy. From the evaluated data it is possible to read, for example, how many people in a particular street have paid for a parking permit. According to him, approximately a quarter of cars are parked in Prague 4, contrary to the rules.
