National is now two-way. That is why a “parody of the ring” was created in the center of Prague
The recent step has been discussed for several years. The current Councilor for Transport Richard Bureš (ODS) met five years ago as Deputy Mayor of Prague 1 with former Deputy Mayor Petr Dolínek (ČSSD). However, the idea for the town hall of the central city district needs to be completed only now, when Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself) is in charge of transport.
“Originally, this change was supposed to be part of the reconstruction of the last part of Národní Street, but it was stopped in the last year and the entire site became part of the IPR plan for Hradební korzo. Therefore, we can now change in this form. Further steps to calm the whole locality will follow, “Bureš announced via a Facebook profile, stating that the parking is newly longitudinal in the given section.
The aforementioned municipal Institute of Planning and Development (IPR Prague) shared and launched an unprecedented number of discussions on a twitter account of information about traffic change in the center of the metropolis. Similarly, the “voice of the people” is spreading on the official Facebook pages of Prague.
Which pedestrians and cyclists, who do not necessarily have to go around the incriminated section, tend to praise the novelty, on the contrary, motorists – especially residents – do not like the change very much. According to councilor Bureš, however, blue zones will be added in the vicinity at the expense of purple zones, where visitors can also park.
⚠️ NOTICE. Národní is newly two-way and Jungmannova náměstí has a new roundabout. The change also applies to parking. It is now longitudinal. pic.twitter.com/zyeAzqksmk

“The purpose is to allow drivers to leave the seats without having to go to ‘Perlovka’ and thus burden the adjacent street. It is part of the planned changes. The evaluation will take place by observation and measurement, “we write to the people from IPR Prague in one of the answers to the question of what is the meaning of the whole event. Prague 1 wanted to reduce the so-called “wheels” of vehicles that run through Národní, Perlová, Skořepka and Na Perštýně Street. This is where the intensity of transit traffic should be reduced.
However, many discussants evaluate (negatively) the appearance of the roundabout, which was created at Jungmann Square. “Doodles, disgust, a parody of a circle,” are the contributions to social networks. According to some, this is probably the only roundabout in the Prague Monument Reserves. The municipality defends itself by saying that this is a temporary solution before the details of the project called Hradební korzo are known, which is to restore the glory of the business class created from the former old town walls during the reign of Charles IV.
