School excuse! The pirates want to remove the mayor of Prague 6. They are lying, Kolář responds
In a press release, the Pirates of Prague 6 Club reiterated its intention, which aims to “face Russian pressure – to turn it in the opposite direction, and thus meaningfully close the case.” According to Ondřej Chrásta, chairman of the Pirates’ Club, the essence of the prepared proposal is that the town hall would authorize the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs to negotiate the sale of the monument, the proceeds would then be donated to Czech victims of the communist regime.
“The Prague 6 City Council will not deal with the sale of the statue. The fate of the statue is resolved by a resolution from last September. Just look at the program of the council, there is no point, “Mayor Kolář told the Prague daily, saying that the deputies – including the opposition Pirates – supported the proposal that the statue of Koněn be dismantled and later become part of the prepared Museum of the 20th century. According to a valid decision of the council, a memorial to the liberators of Prague is to be erected on the site of Koněv’s monument.
But what is happening around Konev is not the main reason why the Pirates are calling for the mayor’s resignation. They wanted to explain the case he pointed out in early March web Aktuálně.cz. According to the article, the city district pays almost 340 thousand crowns for legal opinions concerning issues of the position of the municipality in administrative proceedings. Prague 6 ordered in order to be able to manage construction proceedings and other official matters more efficiently. The report was also intended to advise municipal politicians on how the town hall could reflect the objections of associations and complete projects without undue delay. According to Aktuálně.cz, however, this is largely plagiarism.
Opposition: Paying classmates for testimonials downloaded from the Internet is outrageous
In addition, the problem is that the document was signed by lawyer Petr Kubíček, who is Kolář’s classmate from the Faculty of Law in Pilsen. The head of the legal department of the town hall is nevertheless made by Břetislav Malásek, who also studied at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and has known the mayor of Kolář and Kubíček for years.
“We consider it more outrageous to pay our classmates to pay more than a quarter of a million of public money for testimonials downloaded from the Internet. We may consider the mayor’s explanation in March that nothing really happened, but you will have your money returned for sure, even more outrageous. We demand a clear derivation of political responsibilities. The school excuse in the style of ‘I didn’t steal the bike, but if you want, I’ll return it again, Mr. Officer’, it won’t work, “said deputy Jiří Hoskovec (Pirates).
Statement by Mayor Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09)
According to representatives of the local cells of the Pirate Party, Mayor Kolář has not explained the situation in the last three months – “on the contrary, he is actively trying to shift media attention elsewhere” – and if he does not hold it at Thursday’s meeting, the Pirates’ representative club will demand his resignation. According to people from the regional association of Pirates, the representatives of Prague 6 are also to discuss high-rise buildings on Hradčanská and the “non-transparent operation of farmers’ markets” or the approval of the plan for the construction of a new LDN.
Mayor: When they are not the body on the program, it can be difficult to discuss them
“Pirates lie as in the case of Konev, and this applies to other points as well. Simply – if they are not on the program, it can hardly be discussed, ”Mayor Kolář responded for Pražský deník. Deputy Mayor Jakub Stárek (ODS) has already submitted the intention to locate a new hospital for the long-term sick in Ruzyně on the agenda approved by the city council. Another deputy mayor, Jan Lacina (STAN), has already explained the case regarding the market in Kulaťák via social networks.
The coalition in Prague 6 was formed by TOP 09, KDU-ČSL, ODS and STAN. It reaches 27 votes in the 45-member council. Pirates have only nine votes to push for a change in the program. YES and the Greens are also in opposition.
According to information from Pražský deník, he also prepares criticized legal opinions of a trainee of Kubíček’s law firm, who actually returned the money to the town hall and solves the case internally. And Kolář no longer wanted to comment on this matter.
Pirates of Prague 6 will also expect the submission of all expenditures from the Prague 6 budget in order to address the state of emergency. “In the context of the corona-business, which is flourishing in the government, we are interested in managing the resources of the city hall during the state of emergency. At the same time, we are also interested in the readiness for the next waves, which can definitely come, “added the opposition representative Miloš Vlach (Pirates).
The first three items of the meeting concern information on covid-19, support for Prague 6 for citizens affected by the coronavirus epidemic and other measures. “Interpellation of drawn citizens from a separate room in the form of a video conference, other interpellations of citizens may be submitted in writing. The interpellations of the representatives will only be in writing, ”writes Prague 6 on the website about questions from the public.
We are not Novosibirsk 6, the Pirates said in a heated debate
Forty deputies finally arrived at the Bílá primary school building, where the negotiations took place due to the state of emergency. Police patrolled in front of the school. In the hall, politicians and officials had to keep to the obligatory distances and have a veil. Citizens and journalists have been in separate rooms and can speak via video conference.
The approval of the program eventually took a little over two hours. The opposition attacked Kolář, who seemed calm,. The confusion was about one order, the possibility to discuss and the time limit of individual contributions. “We are not Novosibirsk 6, we are Prague 6,” pirate representative Jiří Hoskovec rebuked the coalition in this regard, calling the meeting “amateurism”.
However, in the voting on the program itself, the Pirates were not expected to get enough votes to assert their bodies. Horses and legal plagiarism do not have to be solved in this way. Coalition representatives generally abstained. Thus, Kolář still remains the mayor of the sixth district of Prague.
Pirates are angry through the media that Kolář explained the case only on social networks. “We are really surprised by the mayor’s reaction. As is usually his bad habit, he again prevented the discussion of the item at the council and made any discussion impossible, which I take as contempt for the citizens and their representatives. Even today, Mayor Kolář escaped from the meeting room when the point was presented, it seems very childish to me and I take it as a clear admission of guilt, “said the chairman of the pirate club Ondřej Chrást.
