From Prague to Brno via four radars. In the narrows on D1, slow down again this year
This year, drivers traveling on the D1 between Prague and Brno are waiting for traffic restrictions on a total of seventy kilometers in seven sections of motorways. According to the Minister of Transport Karel Havlíček, this year will be the most challenging at D1.
Continuous section speed measurement will take place on at least four of the seven sections. These are the sections Mirošovice – Hvězdonice (21st – 29th km), Soutice – Loket (56th – 66th km), Humpolec – Větrný Jeníkov (90th-104th km) and Velký Beranov – Měřín (119th-134th km) km).
During last year, speed measurements in the repaired sections of the D1 documented 102,000 speeding. The most, 55,000, were in the section between Mirošovice and Hvězdonice.
According to an older statement by the spokesman of the police presidium, Ondřej Moravčík, the aim of the sectional measurement is prevention rather than the imposition of sanctions, so the drivers were alerted to the information board’s warning.
This is how it should be this year, but the beginning and end of the measured section are easily removed even without a mark. In each lane there is a thin transverse line on the road and a few meters away there are cameras on the pole.
Such or very similar cameras are usually located at the beginning and end of the section speed measurement. (Illustrative photo)

Section speed measurement is not radar in the true sense of the word. It works on the principle of average speed, ie that the passage of the car at the beginning and end of the measured section. He knows the distance and calculates the average vehicle speed accurately according to time. If it is higher than the specified limit, the driver of the car is suspected of an offense.
The passage of traffic and the fastest possible passage through the section is, of course, suitable to drive at the upper limit of the highest speed in the given section. However, if you do not monitor the speed at some point, you can slow down and download your average to “safe” numbers. However, pay attention to safety and smooth operation; even driving too slow compared to other vehicles can be dangerous.
