Drivers commuting to Prague have had two more car parks available since the end of last year, where they can change to public transport and continue to the capital other than by car. At the end of December, the Technical Road Administration (TSK) opened two new P + R car parks in Běchovice and Braník. Standing on them is free.
A total of 115 parking spaces were created in Braník, the new location is mainly aimed at drivers traveling from the south of Prague. It was created in the former bus turning point. Drivers will reach the new P + R via Pikovická Street and can continue by suburban trains.
“The new car park is right next to the station and offers drivers an immediate opportunity to change to suburban trains, public transport and get to the center of Prague comfortably and without a car. The place where cars and car wrecks often stood disorganized has now become a full-fledged car park with 110 parking spaces and five spaces reserved for the disabled. It is precisely in this way that traffic in Prague will be gradually improved, and that is why we will continue to build intercepting car parks next year,“Said Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Transport.
There is also a new car park for a total of 64 cars in Běchovice. It also includes 5 lockable bicycle boxes. It is adjacent to the Praha-Běchovice střed stop.
“Běchovice is slowly but surely remaining the most important transport hub in the east of the capital city of Prague. At the same time, public transport is and always will be a priority. The new P + R car park at the Prague-Běchovice střed railway station offers individual motorists a space where they will be able to park their seats and switch to the train quickly and comfortably. I perceive the construction of P + R car parks as a fundamental prerequisite for a functioning urban transport system and I assume that this is not the last, “Said Ondřej Martan, mayor of Běchovice.
The construction of interception car parks is planned for next year. Prague is releasing 50 million crowns for them for 2020. During the first six months, it should be established in Prague-Hostivař, which will serve mainly commuters from Říčany and its surroundings, and the second in Prague-Lipence, where drivers from areas along the Berounka River will head.
