Prague 1 wants to cancel the exception for garden opening hours. The owners of the pubs are defending themselves
The City Hall of Prague 1 wants to take action against the fact that the operators of the restaurant front gardens in the city center have the opportunity to keep them open long after the time of night rest. The opening hours of some companies are extended by the city market rules, which the town hall wants to change. The owners of about 30 companies in the center, trying to defend themselves, founded an organization because of that.
According to town hall spokeswoman Kateřina Písačková, the town hall wants to support the suppression of night peace in the center of the metropolis. “We want to be in it Prague was at a different level of European cities, in this we are on the side of residents. At the moment, we are only dealing with the current situation in the past, when some gardens in Prague 1 listed in the Prague Market Rules close after the time set by occupation – at eleven, at midnight, but in some cases at two in the morning – compared to other establishments in the Market Rules. According to her, the removal of establishments from the market rules will mean a leveling of the market.
The representatives of the companies to be affected do not like the restriction. For this reason, the Association of Employees and Hospitality Operators POHO, to which, according to the association, more than 30 companies with approximately 1,500 employees have signed up.
“It would be a significant intervention in the business economy with a negative impact on employees,” said the chairman of the association, Petr Bauer. He added that the association had already addressed a letter to the councilors and representatives of the capital requesting that they reject the proposal of Prague 1.
Prague 1 has the most restaurant front gardens in the metropolis, with more than 300 companies allowed for a long time. For the permit, the business operator must lease the area of Prague and at the same time obtain a permit from the city district. Both then pay for the rental. In the Prague Monument Reserve, the garden must also be approved by conservationists who do not allow, for example, roofing or elevated stages.
