One of the highlights of autumn and a symbol of tourism in the city of Hrvatska Kostajnica should start this month.
The Croatian Kostajnica Chestnut Festival has been held for the 22nd year in a row this weekend since October 11-13, 2019. The festival, locally called Chestnut Festival, is a celebration of the chestnut harvest in the surrounding hills and forests.
Hrvatska Kostajnica, a town located on the left bank of the Una River, is named after the surrounding forests that are rich in chestnut forests.
The weekend festival features numerous attractions that bring together people from all over Croatia and the region, including tasting traditional chestnut specialties, participating in the harvest, concerts, tours and numerous fun activities for all ages.
The Chestnut Festival has become the most important tourist product in Hrvatska Kostajnica, and the city has a brand that no other city in Croatia has thanks to its chestnuts.
As every year, there will be a railway line from Zagreb to the festival. The train departs from Zagreb station (8 am) and stops in Buzin, Velika Gorica, Lekenik, Sisak and Sunja.
