Unique footage: Prague 14 from a bird’s eye view! The district is celebrating 25 years, what is it up to?
Among the oldest parts of the territory of Prague 14 is Hloubětín, which originates from already from the 10th century. A stone fortress stood in the medieval village, the foundations of which have been preserved to this day. The creation of Kyjí and Hostavice dates back to the Middle Ages. Černý Most is significantly younger, where a giant socialist-style housing estate was built in the mid-1980s.
The most beautiful places
According to Radek Vondra (TOP 09), the mayor of Prague 14, it is definitely worth a visit church of st. Bartholomew in Kyjy from the 13th century, which is the second oldest Romanesque church in Prague and in which the original frescoes have been preserved. another important secular place is church of st. Jiří in Hloubětínwhich was built in the Gothic style and during the 19th century was modified in the spirit of Neo-Gothic.
If you are a nature lover, beautiful nature is hidden in the park in the meander of Rokytka Dry polder of Čihadla. The space was repaired five years ago and has raised, wooden attic walkways leading through it: “You won’t even know if you are in Šumava or in Prague 14,” laughs Mayor Vondra. According to the mayor, the renovated Bílý kůn sandpit should open in the fall. from which sand was extracted especially in the 19th century. Extensive corridors and larger excavated sandstone caves have been preserved underground to this day.
Money from the EU
Many other projects are also in the works, such as creating of the sports complex in the Čihadla Forest Park in cooperation with the Czech Olympic Committee. According to the mayor, minor works should start already next year. Next is going to revitalization of the central park in the Černý Most housing estate or the reconstruction of four buildings intended for community centers.
There are 11 schools and six elementary schools on the territory of the city district, and according to the mayor, the capacities are sufficient. The largest package of money, just over 300 million crowns, went into their repairs. Just for comparison, the city district’s budget itself moves around 60 million crowns. The district must apply for funding from the municipality or European funds: “I think that we are among the most successful districts in drawing European subsidies,” boasts Radek Vondra.
Disgraceful terminal
Nevertheless, there are problems that have plagued Prague 14 for a long time. You can see behind the largest of them parking at Černý Mostwhich should be solved by a new parking garage with 880 parking spaces and its implementation will start next year. The state of the inner blocks and block of flats owned by the municipality is also unflattering and which are being prepared for gradual reconstruction. But the biggest shame is the terminal at Černý Most, where the metro ends, and which is the gateway for passengers from Central Bohemia: “We had several meetings with the new management of the municipality and we were promised that security work will continue this year. A project is being prepared for the overall reconstruction of the terminal,” reveals the mayor.
Big celebrations
They evaluate the past 25 years of Prague 14 positively and see that they have succeeded in improving life in the housing estates. Locals have been commemorating the big anniversary, when Prague 14 was founded on November 18, since June, but the official program is planned from September 4, when the singer Ondřej Ruml will perform at the Černý Most subway from 5 p.m. As part of the celebrations, guided walks around the city district and several concerts are planned.
