Prague has a plan for a tram in front of the main station, the route will lead through the park
The route should lead from Vinohradská Street via the main road between the National Museum building and the former Federal Assembly, then along the main road to the opera house, where it turns into Politických vězňů Street to Washington Street and then in front of the main railway station. The route should connect at the dormitory between Bolzanova and Opletalova streets.
The city is now discussing a change in the zoning plan that would build the area’s track, as the area in front of the main station is managed as a park. Prague also plans to return by tram to Wenceslas Square.
The change must be discussed and approved in the future by, among others, Prague councilors and deputies. In addition, the transport company must build a connection from Vinohradská to the newly laid tracks.
At the earliest in 2025
“Currently, there is a consensus on the route between all the authorities concerned,” Boháč said. He added to the news that the route is part of the planned connection of Vinohradská with Wenceslas Square, where construction could begin this year. According to him, trams in front of the main station are a promising thing, which could happen around 2025, for example.
According to the second option, the proposed tracks to the opera along the same route as in the above variants, but then they would not go in front of the station hall, but up to Opletalova Street and further to the intersection with Bolzanova. The last option was to lead the line from Vinohradská to Wenceslas Square and then to Opletalova and Bolzano. The city rejected these two variants.
The current management of the capital also wants to build a line from Vinohradská třída across Václavské náměstí and connect it to the tracks connecting Vodičkova and Jindřišská streets. You do not need to change the zoning plan for this construction.
