A satellite from a Finnish nuclear power plant sees the Dalila tropical recession fading
A satellite from NASA-NOAA’s Finnish nuclear power plant provided a visible picture of the deteriorating tropical recession in Dalila in the eastern Pacific.
The Finnish nuclear power plant passed Dalila on July 24, and the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) gave a visible picture of the storm. The VIIRS image showed that the strong convection associated with the cyclone and the developing thunderstorms have continued to reduce coverage this morning. A limited area of severe thunderstorms was seen at the Finnish nuclear power plant, with cloud peak temperatures of up to minus 70 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 56.6 degrees Celsius). The National Hurricane Center said the convection tape is still broken in the southeast.
At 11 a.m. EDT (1,500 UTC) on July 24, the National Hurricane Center, or NHC, said the center of the Dalila Tropical Recession was located near latitude 20.5 degrees north and longitude 119.0 degrees west. It is about 605 miles (975 km) west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California in Mexico. The deposition is advancing northwest at 7 mph (11 km / h) and this movement is expected to continue today. The turn to the west-northwest is forecast to take place by Thursday, and this general movement should continue until the system disintegrates within a few days. The maximum continuous wind speed is close to 35 mph (55 km / h) and higher in gusts.
The NHC noted that Dalila is moving into an area where sea surface temperatures are too cold to maintain a tropical cyclone and a dry and more stable air mass. The NHC said: “This should lead to deterioration and the system is expected to deteriorate to a residual low within 24 hours.”
Over the next couple of days, a deterioration is forecast, and Dalila is expected to become a tropical residual shallow tonight.
