Vyšehrad railway station will not buy the city. The price of “many years of disgrace of Prague” is high
“We will strive for the purchase and reconstruction of the Vyšehrad railway station,” the members of the coalition of Pirates, Prague and the United Forces (TOP 09, STAN, KDU-ČSL) committed themselves in the program statement last autumn. The mayor of the second city district, Jana Černochová (ODS), announced this May that she would place the Slavic Epic, the work of the now unsightly Alfons Mucha, in the station building. She believed that a concrete vision would move the negotiations forward.
Prague 2 wants a Slavic epic. She would place her at Vyšehrad railway station
However, public institutions cannot compete with a private investor. “The price is too high for us,” said Jan Chabr (TOP 09), the city councilor for property of the Prague Patriot website. Prague would like to have there, but at the moment we are unfortunately not approaching an agreement with the owner that would be defensible from the point of view of public finances, “Chabr explained.
Prague 2 will require repairs
The city hall also does not have enough funds without the support of the municipality. “There is a danger that the sale to the private owner will be so prolonged that the listed building will suffer even more. Prague 2 is concerned that even for a private owner, the return on investment is not relevant enough to invest funds in the repair of a historic building in the first place. But that is exactly what the city district will demand of him, “said Deputy Mayor Václav Vondrášek (ODS).
What is the future of Vyšehrad railway station? I am also interested in Prague
After protracted property disputes between České dráhy (ČD) and the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC), the Vyšehrad railway station was bought in 2007 by Tip Estate (later renamed Rail City Vyšehrad). After the subsequent unauthorized demolition of the wooden waiting room and the subsequent years of the suffering of the railway station below Vyšehrad, the National Monuments Institute included it among the endangered immovable monuments.
Standards do not allow stations in the arc
“The main building shows a state of emergency, ceilings and truss. There are wood-destroying fungi in the building. The building has only two offices, otherwise it is evicted and not used. The underpass between the station buildings was walled up due to the state of emergency of its construction, “reads the opinion of conservationists, who also criticized the project from 2015 for the reconstruction and construction of two buildings in the vicinity of the station.
The railway bridge should be red and three-track. A stop is planned for Výton
Two years later, the district office issued a zoning decision. Then nothing happened until the next municipal elections. It is now certain that, due to standards banning the station in the curve, trains will not be built here in the future. The station is being moved closer to the river in connection with the planned repair of the railway bridge and the establishment of the Prague-Výtoň station.
“It is a long-standing disgrace to Prague,” architect Petr Kučera told Echo24.cz in the spring. Pirates of Prague 2 some time ago initiated a civil petition called We will save Vyšehrad railway station. Now the efforts of politicians across the spectrum seem to be in vain. It almost looks like the listed building will fall or will have to be demolished before deciding on its next owner and future use.
Don’t know what to do with the money? You can also buy a railway depot or a former train station
